We are now living in a country with a very high level of income and wealth inequality. That is bad for the nation’s health and social cohesion. So why are our politicians and most of the media pundits afraid to talk about it or to advocate for a fairer society economically? Why is ‘redistribution’ a word they avoid? Why, for example, do we hear so much about raising or reducing taxes rather than about having a fairer taxation system that would ask the better-off to contribute more than they are doing now? Only the Green Party are addressing economic inequality openly.
